Welcome to PRSSA!

By Mia Bonfiglio

Public Relations Student Society of America starts off the year with a variety of meetings this upcoming semester. Let’s learn about the upcoming meetings, what’s in store for this semester and ways to engage and further involvement with the organization.

PRSSA’s kick-off meeting was held on September 5 and focused on what the semester will look like in the organization.

What is PRSSA?

PRSSA is a pre-professional organization that helps students network, build their portfolios and strengthen their experiences related to public relations. PRSSA enhances members’ abilities to successfully practice PR, and getting involved in PRSSA is easy. While it is in the name, PRSSA is not just for public relations majors; it is open to all majors and can benefit anyone interested in aspects of the communication industry. Membership is open in the fall until November 1st and there is an additional opportunity to join in the spring as well.

How can I get involved?

Joining a PRSSA committee is a way to further involvement and gain tangible experience in various skills that are necessary in communication fields, such as content, DEI and outreach, event planning, member relations, public relations and social media. The deadline to apply is Friday, September 15th and interviews for new applicants will be held the following week. Applications to join the executive board will be available in the spring – another great way to stay immersed in the happenings of PRSSA.

Semester Preview:

Throughout the semester, PRSSA is hosting seven meetings on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. These include professional preparation workshops and learning from guest speakers about different opportunities in the communication industry. By attending, students are given the ability to network, learn about different fields within the PR industry and better prepare for internships and careers as a whole.
