ADPR Connection recap
By Sam Genzale
ATHENS, GA. – On Tuesday, Oct. 22 at Tate Grand Hall, PRSSA members attended the 9th annual ADPR Connection event. ADPR Connection is a student-run career fair and networking event hosted by UGA PRSSA and UGA AdClub. The event gives Grady college students the opportunity to showcase their skills, personality and ambitions with potential employers in the public relations and advertising industries.
The theme this year was “Discover Your Drive,” which aims to help students find what inspires, motivates and engages them. By seeking out strengths, passions and goals, students can pinpoint the paths that will create fulfilling careers.
The event began at 10:30 a.m. and throughout the day included a variety of panels and workshops, coffee hour, senior luncheon, career fair and a downtown mixer. Professionals in the industry gave students advice to help them gauge their interests and how to be successful. Panel topics ranged from building portfolios, leveraging strengths, diversity and inclusion, navigating the job search, and even what to do when a job or internship isn’t the right fit.
The career fair was a great opportunity for students eager to learn about the industry and network with companies including Moxie, Publicis Health, the Coca-Cola Company, Jackson Spalding, Porter Novelli and Edelman. Over 30 employers were able to connect with students and answer questions about their company culture, internship opportunities, clients and campaigns, or in general, what life is life in the industry and how they got to where they are.
Hayden Shelton, a junior advertising major, was a part of the event planning committee and put in many hours to make sure students receive the best experience possible. “It was a job that required a lot of time and energy, but I realized how worth the hard work was when I saw everyone enjoying the food and decorations from my team,” Shelton said.
If you attended, don’t forget to follow up with the employers you connected with. Also, be sure to thank the volunteers who organized and executed such a rewarding event. To seniors, good luck with your job searches, and to everyone else, we hope you come out to ADPR Connection next year!
Our next meeting is on Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m. in Studio 100 with communications professionals from The Home Depot.
