2025- Bring. It. On.

Welcome back to campus!
PRSSA is hosting the first meeting of the semester on Jan 14. featuring a past chapter president. Make sure to be there and start the year on the right foot.
As a new year begins, there is room to reflect and redesign some of the past year’s trends.
In 2024, public relations was defined by AI, podcasts, and brands highlighting niche influencers. It was a year of newness and molding the field into our ever-changing world. In 2025, some of these same themes and trends will continue to shine, but certain aspects may change, and even more radical ideas will emerge.
In terms of AI, it is expected that the public relations field will begin to employ it strategically instead of utilizing it for simple tasks.
For example, PR professionals are expected to use AI to analyze trends or pitches instead of just writing captions or emails. This will require PR professionals to learn how to use AI wisely—not only to save time but also to generate quality work.
On the other hand, authenticity in brands, messaging, and storytelling is a big ‘in’ for 2025.
Readers, listeners, and everyday people want to hear vulnerable stories from companies that resonate. While this may seem to contradict the idea that artificial intelligence will be a trend in 2025, the two can work in tandem to produce authentic stories. The authenticity audiences seek isn’t about grammar or media analysis but the stories PR professionals are telling and why they are telling them. This semester, think about the projects you are working on—not only as a grade but as authentic stories for a real audience—to prepare for this upcoming trend.
Brand loyalty is the golden ticket to success.
When PR professionals design a campaign with the goal of brand loyalty, should it reach a broad audience or a niche community? In 2025, choose to target the niche community. Not only did 2024 see a rise in micro-influencers, but 2025 is expected to continue pursuing this trend for entire campaigns. Social media has brought about an era of extreme connection, where communities interested in specific ideas, brands, or products can come together. Utilizing social media as a tool to identify and target these audiences will bring brand loyalty to the forefront of campaigns and make this trend even more accessible.
Keep an eye out for these trends in 2025, and maybe write them down—they could help you later this year.
