EXECUTIVE BOARD ELECTIONS

Our executive board is elected by Drewry chapter members every spring. Board members keep our chapter running smoothly and keep our schedule full of exciting opportunities for our members. Interested in running for an executive board position? Apply here! 

Please note: All executive board members must...

  • Keep in contact with all other E-board members throughout the summer.
  • Attend the E-board planning retreat at the beginning of fall semester.
  • Attend all E-board meetings, bi-monthly chapter meetings, and ADPR Connection.
  • Attend dinners scheduled with the speakers, when possible.
  • Make recruiting new members a top priority.
  • Represent PRSSA at the fall and spring student activities fairs.
  • Introduce themselves to their professors and represent PRSSA in their classes.
  • Work together as a team, stepping in where needed.
  • Make PRSSA a top priority, other than classes and internships/jobs.
  • Become familiar with PRSSA Constitution & Bylaws.
  • Uphold the excellence of the Grady College and The University of Georgia.

President

Must have been a member of PRSSA for at least one year. Interview with faculty advisor required.

The president is the executive officer of  the executive board. They have final say and are available to resolve any conflict. They should be a trusting and approachable person.

  • Maintains contact with new E-Board over the summer.
  • Directs overall operations of the chapter by ensuring open and continuous lines of communication for the E-board.
  • Recommends goals, objectives, plans and programs for the benefit of the chapter.
  • Presides at and oversees all membership and executive board meetings.
  • Organizes professional speakers for meetings by making all necessary arrangements and providing appropriate follow-up.
  • Handles arrangements for meetings, including procurement of meeting rooms for the year and inspection of room before each meeting.
  • Arranges dinner with the speakers and other E-Board members.
  • Coordinates professional development opportunities for PRSSA members  (Shadowing, Agency Tours, Workshops, Coffee Talks, Socials, Senior Night).
  • Serves as the liaison between National PRSSA and UGA PRSSA.
  • Is responsible for any official involvement at National Conference, if possible.
  • Meets weekly with the faculty advisor.
  • Works with the treasurer to develop the chapter’s yearly budget.
  • Reviews chapter bylaws at beginning and ending of term of office.
  • Maintains close contact with professional advisor.
  • Initiates research, as appropriate, to determine if the chapter is meeting member needs (end-of-year survey).
  • Applies to all awards applicable to PRSSA chapter and makes members aware of individual awards.
  • Manages PRSSA alumni database and keeps in contact with alumni.
  • Directs recruitment of PRSA Associate Membership for graduating PRSSA members.
  • Meets with successor to review and turn over records before the end of spring semester to ensure a smooth transition to the next year.

Vice President

The vice president should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, delegation skills, ability to lead a team and prime organizational skills. Time management and working in a fast-paced environment are also essential.

  • Performs the duties of chapter president if the president is absent or unable to perform his/her duties (becomes president if current president resigns or is removed from office).
  • Organizes committees.
    • Type and number of committees created under the discretion of the VP and President.
    • Organizes and appoints committees for university and community events.
    • UGA Homecoming (application must be completed over the summer).
  • Helps committees to establish plans, goals and objectives and updates the E-board and faculty advisor of committees’ plans, goals and objectives.
  • Keeps in contact weekly with all committee heads and regularly reports to president and faculty advisor.
  • Is available to attend committee meetings if needed.
  • Works with president to submit award nominations for the chapter.
  • Directs overall recruitment objectives for the UGA PRSSA chapter. 
  • Meets with successor to review and turn over records before the end of spring semester to ensure a smooth transition to the next year.

Director of Internal Communications

This person should have meticulous organizational and interpersonal skills. They should be up to the enormous task of ensuring day to day tasks are completed efficiently. If there is a problem, they should tell the advisor and the president.

  • Works with the president and vice president of committees to distribute tasks and coordinate with other executive board members.
  • Keeps a detailed living document detailing what is happening within the chapter, committees and with the executive board.
  • Sends updates to the executive board and advisor once a week and resolves any potential challenges.

Director of Finance

This person must be well organized and have an eye for detail so that they can keep accurate record of all funds and create budgets that committees must adhere to.

  • Works with chapter president and advisor to prepare annual budget, which is out of both the agency and SAC account.
  • Provides financial reports monthly to president and faculty advisor (report includes budget, spending and balances in all accounts).
  • Collects fees for special events and fundraisers.
  • Attends SAC meeting with the president and faculty advisor at the beginning of fall semester.
  • Keeps accurate financial records by making timely deposits and by keeping record of all incoming and outgoing money.
  • Contact the business office every couple of months for the funds left in the account.
  • Prepares check for National dues.
  • Reimburses members for PRSSA expenses.
  • Serves as an ex officio member of the fundraising committee.
  • Meet with head of fundraising committee at the beginning of each semester and plan out fundraising events for the entire semester (percentage nights, selling merchandise, t-shirts, etc.).
  • Reads and understands what the SAC account can and cannot be used for.
  • Meets with successor to review and turn over records before the end of spring semester to ensure a smooth transition to the next year.

Director of Member Relations

 This person should be very well-organized, have strong written communication skills, strong time management skills and work well in a team.

  • Manages the membership process in the beginning of each semester.
    • Creates the membership Google Doc.
    • Presents membership/renewal information to the chapter.
    • Works with the recruitment committee lead to attract new members.
    • Point of contact for all members/potential members regarding membership.
    • Works with the Director of Finance/the UGA Vendor’s office.
  • Updates the PRSSA listserv with email address of new members.
    • Removes members who have graduated.
  • Submits electronic and hard copy of membership information and dues to National PRSSA.
  • Maintains a record of chapter members and attendance at meetings.
    • Works with the member relations committee lead to designate points for attendance.
  • Runs the chapter Gmail account.
    • Responsible for answering all emails from students and employers.
  • Creates and sends the weekly e-newsletter.
    • Keeps track of all internship opportunities and other announcements provided by the E-board, advisor and employers.         
  • Oversees the Member Relations Committee.
    • Stays in constant communication with the committee head.
    • Oversees the “Member of the Month” selection.
    • Assists in the creation of networking teams.
  • Collects PRSSA mail from the Dean’s receptionist and distributes to E-board members.
  • Buys gifts for speakers and writes thank you notes.
    • Presents the gifts and thank you notes to the speakers at the end of each meeting.
  • Contacts ADPR faculty about meetings and PRSSA events through Donna LeBlond, department secretary.
  • Creates and sends out an end-of-year survey to the chapter.
  • Meets with successor to review and turn over records before the end of spring semester to ensure a smooth transition to the next year.

Digital Media Director

Must have web maintenance and social media skills and provide work samples.

  • Updates website on a regular basis and ensures that it is operating effectively.
    • Adds new events to calendar tab, new blog posts, Precedent issues, membership forms and announcements, upcoming events and chapter news.
  • Manages all social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
    • Oversees Social Media Committee along with committee lead.
    • Schedules weekly posts using Buffer and Hootsuite.
    • Edits post submissions from committee members.
  • Runs monthly campaigns on social media accounts to engage members and build social media presence.
  • Runs analytics on social media accounts to gauge audience interaction and improve post content, hashtag use, photo type, etc.
  • Assigns committee members to live tweet, run Instagram story, and write timely meeting recaps for each general body meeting and PRSSA/Grady-related event.
  • Interacts with members, faculty, alumni and industry professionals frequently on social media accounts.
  • Uploads photos and videos to website and social media accounts.
  • Creates a blog schedule and edits/posts new blog submissions regularly.
  • Pay yearly and monthly fees for website.

Public Relations Director

  • Responsible for the production and distribution of fliers and graphics for all meetings and events.
  • Maintains the PRSSA bulletin board on the second floor of the Journalism building or assigns it to a committee.
  • Manages publicity committee members and committee head.
  • Maintains media relations on and off campus by pitching stories to UGA media, Athens media and PRSA Georgia and PRSSA publications weekly.
  • Create press releases about PRSSA events, PRSSA meetings and PR trends.
  • Edit and distribute materials for other committees' events.
  • Provides information about PRSSA for Grady website, ADPR Blog, and Grady’s listserv.
  • Keeps in close contact with Digital Media Director and President to ensure consistent message across platforms.
  • Meets with successor to review and turn over records before the end of spring semester to ensure a smooth transition to the next year.

Publications Editor

Must have completed JOUR 3190, News Writing and Reporting Across Platforms. Must have a solid grasp of AP Style. Also need to have completed ADPR 3520, Graphics if they intend to do the layout themselves. Must submit writing sample.

  • Serve as editor of the PRecedent (produce at least six issues per year).
  • Manages the Publications Committee, the team of writers responsible for writing content for the newsletter.
    • Brainstorm and assign articles to committee members.
    • Edit committee members’ articles for grammar and cohesiveness.
  • Assigns articles, edits articles, produce the layout and uploads each issue online (issuu.prssauga).
  • Note: If the publications editor does not feel confident in their design skills, it is possible to choose a committee member dedicated specifically to designing the layout in InDesign.
  • Creates submission deadlines and issue dates for the entire year.
  • Submits proof to faculty advisor and president for editing prior to publishing.
  • Responsible for printing each issue of the newsletter, and bringing copies to distribute at PRSSA meetings and to place on the PRSSA bulletin board in Grady.
  • Communicates writing opportunities and deadlines to Grady faculty.
  • Meet with successor to review and turn over records before the end of spring semester to ensure a smooth transition for the next year.
